24 novembre Thanksgiving DayAs the turkey is cooking, and I am watching the Macy's Day Parade. I think of all our family and friends that will not be with us on this day. I count my blessings this year as always for keeping my family safe and healthy.
And I also pray for all the troops stationed abroad to remain safe and out of harms way. I know what it's like to be away from home, stationed in a foreign country and having Thanksgiving in a messhall. We tried to keep it in our hearts and yet we still miss our family and friends dearly. Yet on this day we celebrate together as a family of our own. Military members create a strong bond for one another and we do become a family.
I also want to thank Abe Lincoln for in October 3, 1863 drafted Proclamation Establishing Thanksgiving Day for the Thursday in November to be Thanksgiving for all. During the Civil War it was to remember to give thanks to all we had, and in many cases at the time it was very little. And to give thanks to the Almighty for our family, friends and yes all the men at the time serving in the military.

Just a snipped of his proclamation: "No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.
It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and voice by the whole American people. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens."
